Research

Research

For the magazine cover design project, I conducted thorough research to select a non-profit organization and a suitable magazine that aligns with its mission. After careful consideration, I chose Nota Bene, a Slovak magazine dedicated to supporting homeless people in the country by donating all proceeds towards their welfare. The research involved understanding the magazine's editorial content, visual style, and target audience to ensure a harmonious fit with the chosen non-profit organization. Additionally. This research provided valuable insights into the magazine's role in advocating for social change and inspired the design direction for the cover, aiming to effectively communicate the magazine's mission and inspire support for their cause.

The magazines theme/concept at the time for that month was "Lost and found". I wanted to create a cover that replicated a lost and found poster with a metaphorical meaning behind it. Those who have lost themselves can always find a way back. I digitally painted the lady, who is the face seen on the magazines website. Afterwards I printed out the digital painting, tore up the print and then taped it back together. This is supposed to represent these individuals piecing themselves back together. The magazine layout, typography and mock-up size all followed standard Nota Bene print specifications.

Development

Development

The development of the magazine cover design project began with extensive research into both the selected non-profit organization, Nota Bene, and the magazine itself. Focusing on the magazines monthly theme that lead to my brainstorming process. After settling on a design that complimented the magazines aesthetic, theme, and overall mission I went ahead and began crafting the cover design. From there I Mocked it all up to proper standard print specifications for Nota Bene. I then went ahead and translated the cover so more audiences could have a chance at reading that months issue.
