Research

Research

The research for creating a magazine cover for UPSET, specializing in new releases across alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock, indie rock, and more, involved studying the magazine's style and layout. In addition, I went in-depth on Thornhill's latest release studying the lyrics, reading interviews with the band, and watching the music video for any inspiration and an idea for the type of aesthetic the band has. This research phase aimed to capture UPSET's essence while highlighting Thornhill's latest release, fostering engagement with the magazine's audience.

Design

Design

The design worked off the bands latest singe titled Arkangel. Featuring the lead singer it showcases the angel motif with the menacing stance but a shadowy angel figure. The image was digitally illustrated. Most magazine covers are all photography based but I wanted to show that illustrators and designers can also create some fun and impactful images.

Development

Development

Adhering to UPSET's aesthetic, I crafted a cover featuring Thornhill using their single "Arkangel" as inspiration creating three versions for consideration. Ensuring alignment with UPSET's print specifications, the layout, typography, and mock-up size were meticulously chosen. From there I mocked up the image and placed the informational text on top to showcase the final design completed together.
